Stone
Church Update
In
October 2011, the Village applied for an Environmental Protection Funding
Grant, through the Historic Preservation for the Stone Church Rehabilitation
Project. We were not approved because there wasnt enough money to fund all the
requested projects in the State.
The Village applied a second time in July 2012 to the
same grant, with a 50/50 match. We found out in January 2013 that we were
awarded $69,160 for the rehabilitation of the roof, windows and some masonry
work. The total project is to cost $138,320.
In May 2013, the Village Board hired Architect Crawford
& Stearns from Syracuse to prepare the drawings of the replacement of the
roof, etc.
The Stone Church Committee is working on a window
restoration project. Any interested person may purchase a window and restore it
with their family name on a plaque underneath the window. The current names on
the windows will remain. Contact the Committee
if you are interested.
Fund Raisers for the summer - Duck Race over the Falls during
the Fireworks Celebration, a Chicken BBQ in August with Raffles of a TV/Blue
Ray Player, with other local raffles. The Committee is looking into other fund
raising opportunities! Stay tuned

Inflatable
Bounce House Available to Rent
The Village of Oriskany Falls, C.W. Clark
Memorial Library and the Pride in the Community Committee purchased 20 x 15 x
14 Bounce House with a slide combo last year.
We were tired of spending money every year to rent an inflatable for the
Summer Recreation Program, Library Carnival and the Fireworks over Oriskany
Falls. The Village is willing to rent this Bounce House Slide Combo to Village
Residents for $150 with a $100 security deposit and proof of liability
insurance. Contracts are available at
the Village Hall. While we are interested in renting this bounce house to
residents of Oriskany Falls, please note that if the Summer Y&R Program,
Library and/or Pride in the Community Committee has an event scheduled and
would like to use the bounce house, they have first dibs. Check with the Village Hall for availability.
Summer

Ave Park where there is a covered pavilion, restrooms, playground, ball field
and refrigerator. All attending must bring a bagged lunch.

seventh grade are eligible to participate. Activities are based on this age
group. Participants will be going to Clinton Pool two days a week and attending
the Librarys Summer Reading Program, plus much more.

Summer Program, the Village of Oriskany Falls will be putting it on again!

through August 8.
Last year there was
bowling, softball, water games, DJ Dance, and were included on swimming
mornings with the regular summer recreation program. This year there will be
some activities planned along with some hanging out at the Maple Ave Park.
Lastly they will be able to attend the end of the Summer Y&R Program field

DPW News
Another
busy summer
.Last summer the Village of Oriskany Falls Department of Public
Works replaced 1,600ft of water line on Jasek Road. This summer plans are in the works to replace
600 feet of water line on Sanger Hill Road just outside the Village limits.
They have plans of replacing sidewalks on Cooper Street, which may not happen until
late summer early fall. Along with
general Village maintenance.
The Superintendent would like to remind residents if
they are putting green waste out to the curb for pickup, that they put it out
in 4ft sections. Green waste pickup is Friday morning and usually one person
picks it up.
Home owners are responsible to mow the grass between
the sidewalk and road. While taking care
of the grass, please weed eat around the fire hydrants in front of your
home. When mowing, please do not blow
grass into the road, it plugs the storm drains.
Any questions call the DPW or Village Clerk! Have a wonderful summer.
Moving
Forward with CDBG Grants
In
June all single family home owners received letters asking for their input on
whether they were interested in the Village pursuing an application to New York
State for funding under the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
program. If successful, the grant could be used to fund housing rehabilitation
for substandard properties in the Village of Oriskany Falls. The properties must be occupied by low to
moderate income property owners.
Also, business owners on Main
Street received letters asking for their input on whether the Village should
pursue New York State for funding under
the NY Main Street program. If successful, the grant would be used to fund
building renovations to commercial and mixed used buildings in the downtown
area of the Village. The grant funds could be used to fund up to 75% of the
cost of renovations.
Since there was so much interest
from the community the Board of Trustees has decided to follow through with
both of these grants. You will be receiving surveys that will need to be filled
out and returned as soon as possible. We need 25% of surveys to be returned in
order to move forward with this grant. Inspectors will access the homes of all
interested individuals. The Village will
incur the cost of the surveys, grant writing and inspections needed.
