Happy Halloween
New Truck and New Holland Tractor
NYS
Department of Transportation has approved the Villages request to purchase a
new F-350 pickup truck and a New Holland tractor through the NYS CHIPS funding.
What is
CHIPS funding? The Consolidated Local Street Highway Improvement Program
(CHIPS) was established by the NYS Legislature in 1981. In 2014, CHIPS was
funded by a budget through the Office of the State Comptroller and allows for
streets and sidewalk repairs/replacements; plus equipment to maintain streets
and sidewalks for a minimum of a ten year service life to villages and towns.
The Village has had a rollover
balance from the State for the past several years and that helped to purchase
both of these pieces of equipment. The New Holland tractor was purchased from
Clinton Tractor and the F-350 diesel pickup truck was purchased from Don’s
Ford. The New Holland tractor replaced
the Kubota and was used as a trade in to Clinton Tractor. The new F-350 pickup
truck will replace the Ford pickup truck. The Village will be looking to sell
the pickup truck.
Fall Leaf
Pickup
Put loose leaves to the
curb and separate branches.
Fall leaf pickup will
conclude November 18th.
Unless winter comes
first!
Housing Grant, again!
Thoma Development Consultants have
been the Villages grant writers since May of 2010. Since then we have
successfully received a grant to reconstruct Broad Street, repair the Stone
Church, refurbish 14 homes in the Village at no cost to the home owner, perform
a Main Street inventory and finally, working on the NYS Main Street
Revitalization.
Just last month, they
filed another grant application to New York State Community Development Block for
a Village-Wide Housing Rehabilitation Program in the amount of $400,000. The
Village should hear by December if we are awarded. If awarded the grant
projects could start in the spring of 2017. We will keep you posted!
Of those twenty-eight
residents that responded, fourteen homes were eligible. Thoma Development Consultants
performed inspections of a few homes for the grant process and proposed that
each home could cost $23,460 to refurbish the homes.
This grant was submitted
in January 2014. We will keep you posted.
Summer Recreation Re-cap
This past Summer Recreation Program
Director was Michelle Boehlert and the Assistant Director was Jane Gray. The program started July 5th and ran through
August 12th, which ended up being six weeks! The County Workforce employed several
local teens to our program.
There were 74 children that signed up
for the program, with daily attendance ranging from 26 to 61 a day.
This year the BOCES program provided
each child with a school lunch, free of charge! Lunches were cheeseburgers,
chicken patty, tuna sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly. They were brought
over to the Maple Ave sight by noon every day. Unless there was a field trip,
then all the children received a bagged lunch for the trip before the bus left
Maple Ave.
The bus driver this year was Gary
Johnson. He got to take the children to many fun field trips; every Tuesday and
Thursday the program goes to Clinton Pool to either take lessons or free swim
for two hours, Cooperative Extension to look at drones, Madison Lake for sand
castles and swimming, The Wild Animal Park, Rockin’ Jump, Pin-o-Rama, Verona
Beach State Park, the Gallager Family Farm and Hamilton Theater. They also
walked to the Fire House on Madison Street for a Bike Rodeo and they went to
the Summer Carnival at Douglass Park!
When they were at the park the
children were flying kites, getting face paintings, having a Birthday Bash,
received a visit from Healthy NY, had a Yoga lesson, painted a masterpiece,
made smores by sunlight and created a time capsule! Thanks for a fun summer
Missy and Jane!
Main Street Grant Update
The Main Street Grant in the amount
of $250,000 was awarded almost two years ago, the deadline is this December.
There are five applicants for this project. They were all waiting on getting
the required two quotes from contractors before moving forward with
construction.
The
Village receives $15,000 for Main Street beautification through this grant. The
Board approved purchasing new benches, garbage cans, bike racks, planters and a
message board all for Main Street.
Thoma
Development, the Villages Grant Administrator will be looking to request an
extension for the Main Street Grant.

Creekside Community Outreach Center
The
Creekside Community Outreach Center in O’Falls operates a Thrift Shop in the
old Creekside Cafe on Madison St. We are a completely volunteer
organization, operated as a mission of the Oriskany Falls UMC. We sell
gently used clothing, household items, toys and games, and assorted other items
that are donated to us. All the money generated at Creekside (after rent
and utilities) is donated back to the community. This includes other community
organizations, individuals in difficult circumstances, our backpack program (we
filled 201 backpacks with grade specific school supplies in August), as well as
the Samaritan's Purse Shoebox program, which sends shoeboxes filled with
children's Christmas gifts all around the world. We also give away free
Bibles, and we have a pastor available on most Saturday mornings. Stop in
and shop, and help us help the community and those in need. Thanks, Mike Marris
Rental Property Directory?
Do you own rental property in the
Village?
Are you looking for rental property
in the Village?
If you are the property owner stop at
the Village Hall and let’s start a rental property directory! This is a new idea;
nothing is on file at this time.
The Village Clerk will compile
information from the property owner and keep on file for interested
individuals. Then interested renters can stop at the Village Hall to review the
possible rental properties and contact the owner to see if available.
Junk Removal
It is the Villages’ policy that junk
is removed once a year, usually in May. Throughout the year if you are getting
rid of appliances or tires you may call the Village Office to schedule for
pickup. Tire removal costs $3 per tire and is payable at the Village Hall.
Appliances must have the doors removed.
You do have options to remove junk
throughout the year.
1. You may take
your own junk to Oneida County Landfill and pay the weight.
or
2. Village
equipment can be placed at your property for you to fill with junk, and then
the Village will charge you for the weight of the removal plus a $20 gas fee.
Call the Village Hall for details at 821-7275.
Weekly Garbage Pickup
Weekly garbage removal takes place in
the early morning hours every Thursday. Residents are asked to put out their
garbage cans on Wednesday nights and then to please move the garbage cans back
to your houses in the morning before you leave for work.
During the winter months plows may
hit your garbage cans and they may get destroyed. They could blow in to the
road and cause an accident. Please be respectful of your neighbor and travelers
of the Village.
Remember to recycle. Stickers for
recycling cans are available at the Village Hall.
Remember that only garbage generated
within your home is garbage you may get rid of. Construction material and
household junk is not.
No outside users. Remember your
neighbor is watching and village residents do not want to pay for outside
users.
