The Village DPW will not pickup branches that are larger than stated. NOTICE: The Village will remove branches that have been trimmed or fallen off; we will NOT remove an entire tree. The answer is yes, and family members or friends have paid $109 to the Village, they provide a picture and specific information pertaining to their family member or friend that served in the Armed Forces. We know you hear the fire siren in the village, but have you ever really stopped to think about what it means?
The siren blows when someone is having a bad day! This could be the result of an illness or acute medical emergency, a motor vehicle accident, some sort of fire or a request from one of our neighboring departments for help. The one common theme for all these types of incidents is that someone is in need of immediate help.
For over 150 years, the volunteers of the Oriskany Falls Fire Department have answered these calls. Unfortunately, due to a decline in the number of volunteers, this has become increasingly difficult. There are times when the siren will blow 2 times and then will blow again about three minutes later. This is either because no one has answered the call or additional help is needed. There are times when our neighboring departments are asked to respond to our community because none of our own volunteers are available.
We are in need of new volunteers, especially those who are interested in becoming trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s), firefighters, support personnel and fire police. No experience is necessary, just a desire and commitment to help the members of your community when they are in need. Training and personal protective equipment are provided and there are scholarship opportunities available for high school students. EMT and firefighter classes will begin in the fall and again in the spring.
If you are interested, please stop by the Madison Street firehouse on any Monday night around 7pm or give Chief Russell Petrie at call at (315) 794-5813. We need your help!
