Responsibilities:

The Village Clerk-Treasurer is responsible for managing the village's administrative functions, ensuring the proper maintenance of records, and overseeing the financial operations of the village. As the official record-keeper, the Clerk-Treasurer ensures that all records, including minutes of the Village Board meetings, resolutions, ordinances, and other legal documents, are properly documented and maintained. They also serve as the custodian of the official seal of the village.

In addition to record-keeping duties, the Village Clerk-Treasurer is responsible for preparing and distributing official notices, agendas, and other necessary documentation related to the Village Board meetings. They manage the process of elections, ensuring compliance with election laws, and may be involved in the preparation and filing of necessary forms, such as those for local elections or public referenda.

The Village Clerk-Treasurer is also tasked with managing the village's financial operations. This includes preparing and maintaining the village’s budget, overseeing financial records, and ensuring that all financial transactions comply with applicable laws and regulations. They manage the village’s accounts, handle accounts payable and receivable, and ensure that proper financial reporting is provided to the Village Board.

Another critical responsibility is the collection of taxes, fees, and other revenue for the village. The Clerk-Treasurer ensures that all revenue is properly recorded and deposited, and they prepare reports on the financial status of the village for the Village Board and other stakeholders. They may also handle payroll, ensuring that village employees are paid accurately and on time.

The Village Clerk-Treasurer is responsible for maintaining communication with other government agencies, ensuring that necessary filings, such as annual reports, tax filings, and regulatory submissions, are completed on time. They also play a key role in managing the village’s insurance coverage and other risk management activities.

In addition to these administrative and financial responsibilities, the Village Clerk-Treasurer may be called upon to provide support to the Mayor and Village Board, offering advice on legal matters, financial decisions, and administrative processes. Their role is essential to ensuring the smooth operation of the village government, both administratively and financially.
